Top Ten Best Farm Photos Summer 2017

September 21, 2017 Leave a Comment

In honor or the last official day of summer, I thought I’d share my top ten best farm photos from the Summer of 2017.  The criteria was simply the way the photo makes me feel. I hope you enjoy them! If you use or share any, please give us credit and also link back to shallowcreekhobbyfarm.com.  All of these photos were taken using a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. It wasn’t easy to chose, and these are in random order, but here we go!

orange tabby cat

Tigger

This photo epitomizes everything I love about summer ~ the slower pace, the beautiful colors, and the season when everything is green and growing.  Tigger is just about the most mellow cat you will ever meet.  He gets along great with everyone, even the frisky puppy!  He says three things:  “Mau” (rhymes with ow), “Ow” (when he has to get shots or other medical care), and “No” (when you tell him the shot will be okay).  No kidding! He really does this! 😀

cucumber vine blue sky garden

Grow little cucumbers, grow!

Our cucumbers were some of the first plants to give us produce this summer.  I love the way these leaves look against the beautiful summer sky.

zinnia bouqet garden flowers

Flowers this Year!

Planting a flower garden this year has been so rewarding! So many times I have heard the kids say, “Mom, let’s plant flowers every year!”  We absolutely loved them when we were working in the garden and we have had a steady supply of bouquets.

homemade pickles

Pickles with Fresh Dill

The pickles look so pretty when they are just ready to go into the canner.  We have canned over a hundred quarts this summer, and Dan still wants to can more!  I’m a lucky girl.  I don’t know many husbands who can as much as mine does.

vegetables

Harvest

This was an exciting time!  Our vegetables were finally ready to harvest! It was so fun to walk out to the garden each day and gather fresh food for dinner.

painted lady butterfly on zinnia blossom

Butterflies

We have had so many butterflies this year!  Whenever I see the butterflies and bees buzzing through the garden, I am so glad that we don’t use chemical pesticides and herbicides that would harm them.  Bees and butterflies are so important, and there are so many wonderful organic ways to grow your garden.

white chicken

Chickens!

We never knew how much we would love these little birds! Their feathers are so soft and beautiful.  I love petting them when they are settled down for the night on their roosting bar.  This picture was taken on the first day the chickens got to play outside. 🙂

campfire

Backyard Bonfires

Oh how I love backyard bonfires!  I love the crackling sound of the fire, the smell of applewood, the cool summer air, and most of all, the loved ones who gather around to eat, laugh, visit, sing and just enjoy each other’s company.

raspberries in teacup

Raspberries

I have to admit we have really neglected our raspberry patch this year, but it has still given us quite a few of these delicious beauties. This photo just makes me feel like today is going to be a great day. 🙂

autumn leaves

Changing Leaves

I am never ready to see the summer end.  The first changing leaves seem to come too soon!  Little by little though, these beautiful autumn colors start to win me over.  Soon the house will be filled with the smells of homemade applesauce and pumpkin pie.  I guess the secret is to just love every minute, every season, the best you can.  We truly are thankful everyday to Heavenly Father for blessing us to live in such a beautiful, peaceful land.
