Happy New Year 2019!

January 8, 2019 16 Comments

To start off 2019, here are a few of my favorite photos from the past year. Please let me know in the comment section which is your favorite!! 🙂

Promise of Spring

Baby Basil

As you can see through the window, Winter still had it’s clutch on our little farm, but we had the promise of Spring inside! I know it’s a little nuts, but I think my baby plants are so CUTE! These beautiful basil seedlings grew into gorgeous plants that made the most delicious basil pesto. I ate so much of it I thought I was going to turn into the Jolly Green Giant. I also discovered that when the basil bolts and goes to seed, the seed pods are absolutely gorgeous in floral arrangements.

In Full Bloom

It was so awesome walking out to the garden to pick a fresh salad for dinner every night, and this lettuce was a great addition ~ easy to grow, huge yields, tasty and so pretty!

Hello Friend

This little friend helped the garden by eating pests that would have consumed our produce. She really was a beauty and so fun to watch as she gently slithered through my fingers and around my arm. In the garden, it is so important to avoid chemical herbicides and pesticides that disrupt the natural balance of God’s creations. The trick is to plan ahead so when your garden is under attack you have healthy options and don’t cave in and nuke everything with Seven (a common pesticide). Someday I will write an article about that. 🙂

Ready For Market

Flower Jars

One morning I woke up and realized I had a lot of flowers in bloom and it was Thursday, Farmer”s Market day in my hometown! So I made some bouquets, set my little table up and sold flowers. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and it was really fun seeing my beauties go to so many different homes.

Taste of Summer

Raspberries

Fresh raspberries for our Raspberry Lemonade. Oh how I love Summer!

Little Hopper

I know you chew up my flowers and produce Mr. Grasshopper, but you are just too brilliant not to admire. Hopefully I have planted enough for all of us to share!

Chiquitita

hen

My Beautiful, Sweet Chiquitita. You taught me so much about how adorable and affectionate a little feathered friend can be.  You were the bravest little chicken I have ever known. I will never forget the way you would snuggle your face into my neck or gently coo when I passed your pen. I love and miss you little one.

Honey Select

Honey Select sweet corn. Definitely a favorite that we will plant again. I have no idea why the raccoons didn’t find this! This is the best corn we’ve had in over 20 years.

Inspection

hens in barn

Cute little birds. I was cleaning out the barn and these girls were so curious, they came in from the barnyard to see what I was doing. 🙂

Pink Frosted Trees

These photos remind me of many blessings this past year. I am excited to begin a new year and wish the very best to all of you.

I love the pink frosted trees and the sweet picture of your pet chicken. I love chickens and have so many great memories of our chickens from our farm when I was growing up. Farm life is the best!

Thank you Julie! That is awesome that you have great memories of your chickens when you were a kid! I was kind of afraid of ours because we had a feisty rooster who would chase me, haha! But since I have grown up, I have a completely new perspective on chickens! They are so cute and funny!

I love looking at the photos and hearing about the garden. Too bad I couldn’t see its beauty when I lived there. Looks so relaxing. I love the snake and grasshopper pictures

Hi Rebecca, thank you for inviting me to comment on which is my favorite photo out of these lovely photos that you offered us! How in the world do you expect anyone to be able to choose?😄 They are all so lovely, wonderful glimpses into your beautiful lifestyle, I find them all to be blessings! Chiquita really tugged at my heartstrings, what a sweet girl she was. The yellow butterfly, the corn, and the beautiful winter scene are all favorites of mine in particular. God bless you sweet friend and your dear family and your hobby Farm ❤️ Dee cottagecomforts

I love the lettuce one too! I was wondering if it would be anyone’s favorite, haha! Our Sweet Chiquitita. I feel like I can actually see an expression of love and trust in her eyes.
